Alexander Yankov was born on June 22, 1924 in Burgas , Bulgaria (southeastern Europe). Burgas is a port city located on the Black Sea coast and the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, after Sofia (the capital), Plovdiv and Varna.

Wife and children
Alexander Yankov and his wife Eliza (an ophthalmologist by profession) have two children: a son (Plamen) and a daughter (Svetla). Plamen (a lawyer by education) passed away suddenly, and his wife passed away a few years later from grief for her son. These events marked a very difficult period in the life of the distinguished lawyer.

Alexander Yankov has three granddaughters. Eliza (daughter of his son Plamen), who settled to live and work in Germany. Svetla gave him two more granddaughters, who are 13 years apart. The eldest - Irina, is a successful psychotherapist. Her son (and great-grandson of Alexander Yankov) - Martin, graduated from the Art High School in Sofia. His youngest granddaughter - Yana, graduated in law in France (Sorbonne) and is a practicing lawyer in Bulgaria.

Political beliefs
Since 1940 , Alexander Yankov joined the Workers' Youth Union (WYU).
From 1942 to 1944 he became a political prisoner , as immediately after graduating from high school in his hometown, he was arrested for distributing propaganda leaflets.
After September 9, 1944, he was elected secretary of the City Committee of the RMC in the city of Burgas.
Since 1947 he became a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party .
From 1954 to 1957 he was secretary of the International Students' Union in Prague.
In 1964 he became secretary of the Eighth District Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party.
Until the end of his life, Alexander Yankov remained faithful to his left-wing political ideas, principles, and beliefs.
